Relocating from New Zealand

Although your New Zealand licence is recognised in the Northern Territory to drive, to drive for Hire or Reward you will need to transfer your licence over.

The process is quite simple;

Obtain A Confirmation of Licence from the NZ Department of Transport. Essentially this is a letter confirming the details of your drivers licence is correct and its appropriate classes and endorsements.
Obtain A letter from you current/last employer in New Zealand confirming the type of vehicle/s you were driving and for what purpose.
Step 1 Visit the local Motor Vehicle Registry in the Northern Territory and complete the L1 Application Form and submit with the two documents above.
Step 2 Visit a local GP in the Northern Territory, submit for a medical check with this form (L02 Medical Check)
Step 3

Submit both this form (CPVF05 - the Application) with this form (PF165 - Criminal History Check) and your Medical Check from Step 2 to the local office of the Motor Vehicle Registry

Step 4 Successfully complete a Theory Test at the same Motor Vehicle Registry
Step 5 Wait about 10 Days from step 3 for the results of your Criminal History Check - and you are all set to go.

Further information can be obtained visiting the Motor Vehicle Registry Website
